“it was his subtle way that little by little got Arun to turn towards other activities”
Our 12-year-old son Arun had become addicted to video gaming; it had taken over his life. My husband and I were desperate and didn’t know what to do. He used to get angry when we tried to limit the hours that he spent video gaming and was absolutely uncontrollable when we turned off the internet modem. He even refused to go to school on some days. We tried everything that we could think of. We were at our wits ends.
And then we met some parents who had had the same problem with their son and they had hired a full-time residential tutor from Tutors from England who had completely cured their son’s addiction, so we did the same.
Alistair was a charming young man, but when we first met him we were not sure that he had the strength of character to cure Arun. How could he compete with Warcraft and Roblox? We were completely wrong; in subtle, almost imperceptible ways he got Arun to give up video gaming altogether. We were amazed and eternally grateful; where a succession of expensive therapists had failed, Alistair succeeded.
At first, of course, Arun was hostile to Alistair, but little by little Alistair won Arun’s respect and Arun really took to him. In fact Alistair subtly became Arun’s mentor. In the end there was nothing that Arun would not do for Alistair.
Of course, this could only have been achieved by a full-time residential tutor. Alistair lived with us twenty-four hours a day and so had an enormous influence over Arun. He was with Arun every waking hour.
Alistair started by taking him to amusement parks and did the things that Arun enjoyed and slowly he started taking him on long walks and hikes until his whole days were filled up with physical activities which Arun came to enjoy, leaving him no spare time or energy for video gaming.
Finally, Alistair started tutoring Arun in the school work that he had missed during the years that he had been addicted to video gaming. It was a wonderful transformation for us to watch happen. Alistair was with us for six months and by the time he left Arun was completely cured of his gaming addiction and never played with video games again. He had caught up with his school work and was able to go back to school and rejoin his class with ease. Hoorah for Tutors from England! You have made one family very happy! GM
