Teenagers today are experiencing more stress than ever. It is a major part of the tutor’s task to deal with these problems.
Our tutors have been very successful on the rare occasions that they have been asked to solve a problem with alcohol
Our full-time tutors are with their pupils all day; their pupils are never out of their sight. When confronted by a pupil who drinks too much our tutor keeps him physically occupied. Our tutor has to win the confidence of the pupil and this takes time; the tutor keeps the pupil busy all day, doing things that the pupils loves – swimming, going for walks, going to the cinema and, of course, the tutor does not drink alcohol, but he does not stop the pupil drinking or criticise him for doing so. Slowly the pupil comes to respect the tutor and wants to win his respect; he realizes that, in order to do so, he will have to give up drinking alcohol and finally he does; it may take a month or two, but he is kept so busy by our tutor that he frankly cannot find the time or the desire to drink.
The important thing is to avoid him drinking again after the tutor has left and for this reason it is important that the tutor stays for a few months, until all desire for alcohol has been replaced by better habits and choices.
Needless to say, an hourly tutor can have no such influence on the pupil; the tutor has to be with him all day to be able to make him give up alcohol. Our tutors have been very successful on the rare occasions that they have been presented with such a problem.
