Teenagers today are experiencing more stress than ever. It is a major part of the tutor’s task to deal with these problems.
Confidence in the tutor slowly transposes itself to the pupil.
Students who suffer from stress do not study well; their performance tends to be noticeably worse than those who are confident and secure. The tutor’s job is to reduce this stress and enable the pupil to study better and more effectively.
Stress usually results from lack of esteem, lack of confidence. It affects everything the pupil does. Our tutors are well used to this condition and are very experienced at resolving it. The first thing for a tutor to do is to analyse why the pupil is stressed; usually it results from a simple lack of confidence which pervades everything that the student does. Our tutor gets to know the pupil very well and the pupil gains confidence in the tutor; this confidence in the tutor slowly transposes itself to the pupil. The student comes to admire the tutor and the confidence that the tutor has in the pupil gives the pupil confidence. It is a transfer of confidence from the tutor to the pupil.
Once the pupil has confidence, the stress vanishes and he or she is able to study well and stress-free. The student comes to believe in himself or herself. Needless to say, this can only happen with a full-time, resident tutor, who is with the student all day every day; an hourly tutor simply cannot have the influence over a student that a full-time tutor has. Full- time Tutors from England become role models or mentors to their students; they have had a lot of success in removing stress from their pupils.
